D700 Scanner Video Overview (click on icon to play)
The D700 represents the next generation of scanning technology, and is optimized for scanning of impression and gypsum models. The D700 scanner guarantees superior scan results without compromising ease of use and sets new standards for scan speed and detail level. No other scanner on the market offers as extensive indications enabling improved clinical results and a higher return on investment.
Building on the functionality of 3Shape’s previous scanners, the D700 represents the culmination of 3Shape’s scanning expertise. This revolutionary scanner is optimized for impression scanning, and is capable of scanning full dental gypsum models up to 40% faster and with greater details than 3Shape’s previous D640 scanner. The D700 also offers reduced temperature sensitivity and improved USB support. The D700's minimal footprint (comparable to a laptop PC), easy fixation and quick insert of objects, high accuracy, versatility and excellent scan speed.
Easy and quick object fixation followed by click on one button in the scanning software makes the scanner easy to use and requires a minimal amount of training.
Advanced virtual model creation
Turn the impression scan to a virtual model by applying tools for articulation, trimming of scan base creation, sectioning of pre From virtual to physical model 3D printing and milling offers attractive opportunities for model making reducing manufacturing cost, model creation time and improving quality.
The D700 is designed for the dusty environment in dental labs and delivers unprecedented reliability. The D700 scanner scans all colors, meaning that laser and camera parameters are automatically adjusted to the material of the scanned object.
No other scanner in the market offers as extensive advanced scan indications covering impression scanning, inlay cores, 16-unit bridges, articulated antagonist model, wax-up bridges for copy milling, deep inlays, pre-preparation model aligned to preparation model, implant position and orientation detection, wax-up customized abutment and wax-up implant bridges for copy milling.
2 Cameras and 3-Axis Scanning
The D700 is built with 2 cameras with reduced angles, which is required to effectively scan impressions and deep inlays. The scanner employs a unique 2 cameras and 3-axis motion system, which results in unrivaled accuracy in object geometry acquisition. The 2 cameras with reduced angle enables the D700 to effectively scan impressions and deep inlays; areas where a single camera often will be blinded by the cavity. Two cameras also improve general coverage and accuracy.
The 3-axis motion system facilitates easy object placement, full undercut scanning and impression scanning. The 3-axis allows the object to be tilted, rotated and translated so as to be scanned from any viewpoint, making 3-axis the optimal number of axis for a scanning volume corresponding to a dental model.
D700 Impression Scanning - From impression to digital model
The D700 scanner delivers high quality impression scans, representing a noticeable advancement in digital dentistry. A combination of 3-axis, 2 cameras with optimized angle and 3Shape’s patented adaptive scanning technology enables the D700 to scan even deep incisor preparations. Direct scanning of silicone and alginate impressions represents a truly unique opportunity for work process optimization and cost saving to labs and large-scale dentists.
Traditional time-consuming, dusty and less accurate model making steps can now be eliminated by instantly going from physical impression to a high accuracy digital model. Impression scanning drastically reduces turnaround time by allowing immediate start on CAD design and parallel manufacturing of model, coping and crown - In some clinical cases the model might not be needed at all.
Impression scanning capability is realized through an unparalleled combination of 3Shape’s patented adaptive scanning technology and 2 cameras with reduced angle. Adaptive scanning intelligently detects incomplete areas and automatically rescans these areas to obtain full coverage.
Unmatched advanced scan indications
Examples of advanced scans: antagonist model, inlay core, wax-up implant bridge and 14-unit bridge.

Before adaptive scanning
The scan result is incomplete in the preparation, proximal and contact areas, which will jeopardize fit and clinical performance.

After adaptive scanning
A complete and high accuracy scan after adaptive scanning of incomplete areas automatically applying the optimal combination of 2 cameras and 3-axis.

The impression scan can be applied directly in 3Shape DentalDesigner™ like any gypsum model scan and sets new standards for system applicability. In combination with
DentalDesigner™ the new D700 scanner brings unprecedented scan-to completed design time to the market for digital dentistry. attractive opportunities in terms of manufacturing cost, model creation speed and quality.
The created virtual model – saved as STL – is sent to digital model making machines, which are currently evolving rapidly, driven by impression and intra oral scanners. Use either a
3D printer or a
mill to produce casting patterns, or a milling machine with zirconia blocks to produce finished parts for direct implant. A physical model can also be used to show the impression to the patient or dentist - to initiate client and lab communication - especially when scanning in the dentist's office..
